Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) was an American novelist and poet best known as the author of the classic Little Women and its sequels Little Men and Jo's Boys. Alcott was an abolitionist and a feminist.
"Little Women” is a semi-autobiographical account of the author's childhood with her sisters in Concord, Massachusetts. "Good Wives” followed the March sisters into adulthood and marriage. "Little Men” detailed Jo's life at the Plumfield School that she founded with her husband Professor Bhaer. "Jo's Boys” completed the "March Family Saga".

engaging metaphysical romantic suspense

Protector Hale looks at mortals with disdain except for his half-sister Zoe, who he rationalizes has some real blood flowing in her veins to overcome her tainted side. Hale is assigned to obtain Aphrodite's Girdle, a magical artifact that has been missing for years has suddenly surfaced. If Hieronymous the outcast former Protector gains the belt, he might control the world.

Mortal Tracy Tannin wears the belt though she has no idea what she is wearing. All she knows is that she, a plain Jane, now has males chasing after her. Hale knows he must not use his powers to acquire the belt, so he plans to seduce her into giving it to him. However, to his chagrin he finds himself wanting Tracy and not just for a one-night stand even if he rationalizes that the Girdle is doing this to him.

The sequel to APHRODITE'S KISS, APHRODITE'S PASSION, is an engaging metaphysical romantic suspense. Readers will gain immense pleasure from the amusing plot. The lead characters are a delight as both share love and denial. Hale refuses to accept he could ever love a creature so beneath him like his mortal beloved and Tracy cannot believe that she could capture the heart of this God-like hunk without donning the belt. The story line is amusing though the intrigue elements seem more of a diversion. The return of the cast from the previous novel adds to the fun and hopefully leads to a certain cousin starring in Julie Kenner's next Aphrodite's tale.

Exciting and witty! Very highly recommended

Superhero Hale uses his modeling career to hide right out in the open -- on romance novel covers. Despite his attraction to mortals, Hale believes mortal-Protector relationships almost never last. He flits from one liaison under the covers to another, leaving his women satisfied and not expecting commitments. But his carefree style seems to have slowed since his half-sister Zoe married a mortal. Now his invisibility gets him out of compromising situations instead of adding erotic appeal to sensual situations. His gift with women logically leads to his new assignment of retrieving Aphrodite's girdle from a mortal and turning it over to the Council of Protectors. Then he meets the very ordinary Tracy Tannin, who seems to have an extraordinary effect on this superhero's libido.
An animal trainer, Tracy seems to disappear on the fancy Hollywood sets. She regrets not inheriting her grandmother's charisma and sexy looks. She spends her rare free moments fantasizing about a romance cover model. Following a really rotten, no good day, she sifts through boxes of her grandmother's possessions when she discovers a gold belt. When she wears it, she suddenly goes from invisible to irresistible. Then she meets the man of her fantasies, and her life takes a sudden turn toward excitement and desirability. Unfortunately, Hale's assignment requires that he get the belt from her. Worse, little does Tracy suspect the belt's effect on others, or the danger it places her in.
Fans of Julie Kenner's APHRODITE'S KISS will delight in this sequel, APHRODITE'S PASSION. With a ferret that threatens to upstage superheroes and mortals alike, these characterizations will delight readers with a combination of sassy verve and humorous one liners. Favorite characters from APHRODITE'S KISS make wonderful but unobtrusive contributions, giving lending the novel updates and a sense of continuance. With plenty of plot twists and wonderfully believable characterizations, APHRODITE'S PASSION is terrific reading written by an author whose star shines over the literary sky. As each book sparkles even brighter, it will prove impossible to wait for Kenner's next book to be released. Exciting and witty, APHRODITE'S PASSION comes very highly recommended.

All her life, Tracy Tannin had felt she was invisible. But when she found an antique belt it all changed. Suddenly, everybody wanted her! No one could do enough to help her! She had no idea of the belt's powers. Problem was that some horrible people wanted the belt, had been searching for it for centuries, and they knew Tracy had it!
Everyone thought Hale was a handsome cover model. Few knew he was not mortal. Hale was sent by the Council of Protectors' High Elder, Zephron, to protect Tracy. No Protector could steal the belt without losing his powers forever. Hale's mission was to, somehow, convince Tracy to voluntarily hand over the belt. But Hale had mortal issues. Mortals were worth protecting and many of the women were great to sleep with. However, he could never actually care for one. Or so he thought ...
***** Julie Kenner has another bestseller in the sequel to Aphrodite's Kiss! I could not stop reading until I had finished the entire book! It was absolutely riveting! I can only hope there will be a third! *****

My Cookbook Bibles (Both Editions)

I bought both volumes in 1976 as part of a Double Day Book Club offer (choose six books free with subscription) never thinking that over the years the set would become my cooking bibles. When I married my southerner husband, he would often ask me to prepare dishes his mom used to make and the recipes in these volumes have never EVER failed me: rhubarb pie, shepherd's pie, collard greens, Maryland style crab cakes, eggs Benedict, prime rib roast, country biscuits with white gravy, and many more. As basic as these recipes were, the taste and flavors were authentic and restaurant quality. I once brought the rhubarb pie (using my husband's home grown rhubarb) to a party hosted by a local chef and he declared it was "the best rhubarb pie he ever tasted." I never shared my secret recipe. ;)

Best Cookbook Ever

When I moved to Alaska in 1973 the price of food was so high I had to learn how to cook.Upon entering the Fairbanks book store I asked for help.I purchased The Doubleday Cookbook and became the best cook ever!Everything is so simple to understand and follow.This book today is still my #1 receipe for all things I wish to prepare.Everyone should own one.I lost my orignal cookbook but found this one on Amazon.I'm a lucky girl!!

The Doubleday Cookbook

This has been my favorite cookbook for years and years. The chili recipe is worth the whole book. Always find info or a great recipe. Friends, family and even strangers love my cooking. Without this book I would be lost in the kitchen. Thrilled to find it again. My original is falling apart at the seams. Kind of like the Velveteen Rabbit. Worn from years of love and cooking.

About the Author
Jean-Paul Sartre was a prolific philosopher, novelist, public intellectual, biographer, playwright and founder of the journal Les Temps Modernes. Born in Paris in 1905 and died in 1980, Sartre was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1964—and turned it down. His books include Nausea, Intimacy, The Flies, No Exit, Sartre’s War Diaries, Critique of Dialectical Reason, and the monumental treatise Being and Nothingness.

Quintin Hoare is the director of the Bosnian Institute and has translated numerous works by Sartre, Antonio Gramsci, and other French authors. He lives in the United Kingdom.

Poor Print Quality

Although I'm very happy to see Verso reissuing The Freud Scenario, those who prefer hardcovers should be advised of the particularly poor print quality of this item. Even though this is a thick text, the hardcover does not have sewn signatures but a single sheet glued spine. If you've purchased a hardcover from Continuum, like Badiou's Logics of Worlds, you'll know the type of binding I'm referring to. Additionally, the quality of the cover itself is not cloth, but more of a fiber infused blue masking tape. The blue dye used in the cover frequently smears on the ends of the book, turns white at creases, and the print quality of the pages is itself rather poor, resembling xerox copies in which the letter forms of the font used are frequently incomplete. Indeed the entire hardcover (including the nondescript courier font lettering on the spine) resembles those available through self-publishing companies like Lulu.
