About the Author

William J. Chambliss, professor of sociology at The George Washington University, was a critical sociological theorist whose research has ranged broadly from studies of law creation and the legal system to participant observation studies of juvenile gangs, organized crime, policing, and the impact of social movements on political and economic change. He served as president of the American Society of Criminology and the Society for the Study of Social Problems. He has received numerous awards for his research and teaching, including the prestigious Edwin H. Sutherland Award from the American Society of Criminology, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Sociological Association, the Bruce Smith Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the PASS Award from the National Council on Crime and Delinquency, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Sociology of Law Section of the American Sociological Association. He has authored and edited over 35 books in sociology, criminology and criminal justice and numerous articles in social science journals.

Daina S. Eglitis is an associate professor of sociology and international affairs and director of the undergraduate program in the Department of Sociology at The George Washington University. Her research highlights sociological dimensions of change in the post-communist world, with a particular focus on stratification, poverty, and gender. She has been the recipient of Fulbright, IREX, and Open Society awards and is the author of several articles and a book on post-communist social change. She also writes for and about teaching in the undergraduate classroom and is the author of the article, “The Uses of Global Poverty: How Inequality Benefits the West,” and the Teaching Sociology article, “Performing Theory: Dramatic Learning in the Theory Classroom.”

For anyone interested in Soviet History this series is a wonderful overview. I thoroughly enjoyed Part I despite what I felt were several cringe worthy Brit-Centric moments of unconscious anti-Russian bias. Ignoring that issue the series is very worthwhile in my opinion

I really like this Lexi-comp. It is very through. The only thing I would like to see in it that is not there are the chemical structures of the active compounds and a section with the US brand/generic options. Overall though, it is a very good referrence book.

Realize your Strengths and Build on Them!

This book and the assessment that come with it have been surprisingly helpful in my personal development. This book is not based on advances in science, and should be taken with a bit of a grain of salt, but the strengths I was said to have and their descriptions seemed to fit exactly what traits I thought/want to have (except they described them even better than I could). As this is an external assessment, the validation that I do indeed display these traits was surprising! As it goes on to list these as strengths, not just traits, and then informs you how to utilize them, I realized that these innate traits of mine could seriously be helpful in numerous situations (professional, emotional, etc)... and once I actually started improving on them and confidently displaying them (as they are strengths, not just traits), my professional growth exponentially accelerated and I became an overall significantly more confident person. I now realize my own abilities and proudly display and make use of them, knowing the power of my own strengths.

Strengths Quest: Discover and Develop Your Strengths in Academics

This book was used in a college Psych class. The book includes a code for an online assessment of the readers top five strengths and talents. This was life-changing for me. I think every one should take this assessment when they are around junior high age. But, it is good at any age. To know your strongest strengths and talents will help you realize that you have your own combination of ability strengths. Often, we think, because we do things differently or think differently from others, we are lacking, when actually, our strengths and talents are different. When we know what those are, we can work on developing the very strengths we naturally have, already, and become better and better at using our own natural abilities. This can help people direct themselves towards employment in which they will naturally enjoy, appreciate and excel.

This book is very well organized. When taking notes, I had no problem trying to find exactly what I needed. Keep in mind the used ones don't have the online access code unless it's implied, and they're usually a LOT more spendy. Be aware!
